Iosif Stalin's Spare Bunker
The Museum, or to be more exact, the Central Russian Army Museum’s affiliate, was reconstructed in the late 1980-s when the blockages were cleared away: when the war was over the bunker was closed as not wanted any longer, its avenues of approach were blocked.
On the 21-st of December, 1996, in the bunker Stalin’s study was open for visitors, in September, 1999 the restored Round Hall meant for Stavka’s (General Headquarters) sittings, could be seen in all its grandeur. The memorial study of the Commander-in-Chief is now open for visitors too. A chain of government communication telephones on the table, a wall map showing the situation on the front lines, a phonograph for listening to old music records and some of Stalin’s belongings are exhibited there.
As soon as the excursion is over the visitors are treated to the best of Georgian cuisine and genuine Georgian wines at the wineshop with the signboard "At Stalin’s place" – either to remember the passed epoch or to think of the coming one...
